We're Ekkam, Charles, and James, three Year 13 students from Hutt International Boys' School and the founders of SecondCycle.
We started SecondCycle because we wanted to create something that could make a real difference. Our idea was simple: take plastic waste and turn it into something useful that could help educate young people.
Using 100% recycled 3D printing filament from Kiwifil, we design and manufacture colourful interlocking building bricks that encourage creativity, learning, and problem solving. Our bricks are made specifically for younger children, with larger sizes that are easier and safer for small hands to use.
For us, SecondCycle is about more than just making a product. We want to show that recycled materials can still be high quality, fun, and innovative. At the same time, we hope our products help teach younger generations about creativity, sustainability, and the importance of reducing waste.

We started SecondCycle because we saw a gap: most educational toys are made from new plastic, wrapped in plastic packaging, and designed to be replaced. We believed there was a better way.
By manufacturing locally using 3D printing with recycled filament, we control quality, minimise waste, and keep our footprint small. Every brick is built to last instead of ending up in landfill.
Our bricks are designed with young children's development in mind. They are large enough for small hands, safe enough for daily use, and smart enough to teach while they play.

Our 3D printing filament is supplied by Kiwifil, a New Zealand company producing 100% recycled plastic filament from post-consumer waste. This partnership is central to our sustainability mission.
